Filmmakers in Attendance - Q&A Following the Film

The Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center, in partnership with the Bijou Theater, will celebrate National Volunteer Week (April 18-24) with some very special film and discussion events featuring the award-winning documentary The Way We Get By. The filmmakers, Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, will visit Iowa City on Saturday, April 24 to introduce two screenings and participate in several activities surrounding the film, including a documentary production workshop with Senior Center Television, a panel discussion on "Aging and the Importance of Community Involvement and Active Lifestyles," and a filmmaker Q&A.

Making Your Own Documentary:
Join the filmmakers of The Way We Get By to explore the process of making their first feature-length documentary. They will share tips with SCTV volunteers and other interested participants on producing your own short or feature-length video documentary.

Film Screening: The Way We Get By
To achieve the best possible viewing experience, the Center is presenting this outstanding documentary on 35mm film at the Bijou Theater. The first screening is at 2 PM and will be followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and local aging experts. The second screening will begin at 7 PM, and a Q&A session with The Way We Get By filmmakers will follow.
These events are free and open to the public. The Bijou is located on the first floor of the Iowa Memorial Union, which is situated at the corner of Madison Street and Jefferson Street on the University of Iowa campus. Parking is available across the street in the IMU parking ramp.

"Aging and the Importance of Community Involvement and Active Lifestyles"
The Way We Get By filmmakers Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly will join local aging experts in a discussion of the benefits of staying active and finding new purpose during the later years of life. Local panelists are yet to be determined.
